Watercolor Workshop

Alabama artist, Troy Crisswell led the workshop here @ Dogwood Gallery. The event was well attended by some very talented local artists. Troy's still-life approach focused on reflective lighting as well as creating atmosphere with watercolor washes used as background. Thanks to all involved. Below is " Troy in Blue Hat " & " Girl with Cat ". click the images for a close up.

watercolor by dick diedrich

the above piece was painted by my stepfather as part of a series of work titled " man on the edge ".  described to me as man's tendency to congregate on the shorelines of oceans & lakes; not so much about man, but very much about the water & it's mystical qualities. in this piece, dick has used his architectural skills to render development along the shore. longitudinal & latitudinal lines pinpoint this location as charleston harbor. in 2008, this painting was judged " best in show " @ the quinlan's annual member's exhibition in gainsville, ga. cathy ehrler's watercolors

above are 3 paintings from cathy ehrler's eco-series, titled " environmental reverberations ". each work is patterned w/ color & balance. the subject in each is secondary to the painted details; however, collectively these pieces make a profound statement on mankind & our tendency to pollute the earth. 24 paintings in all, paired in color & form ( natural vs. synthetic ). " chaos gives birth to a divine geometric order."
