The Man Behind the Wheel

Billy Lee, a Folk Potter in the truest sense, is self taught. He is a Naturalist taking his ideas from the world around him. Billy creates original works that have a spiritual feel. He primarily uses Georgia clay and a little Tennessee ball clay. Most of the glazes used are made from wood ash and local clays.

Gertrude Smart

Emma, Girl In the Doorway
by: Gertrude Smart
OIL ON CANVAS.

This is my favorite piece by Mrs. Smart. It is extremely captivating and holds the viewers attention and makes one stop and truly observe the piece, soaking every emotion the art evokes. It makes me nostalgic, for a time before I was born, or even my parents were born, or even their parents.

Frost Bitten

Frost Bitten
Bob Francisco

I feel it is only right to blog about Bob Francisco's Frost Bitten. Fall is definitely in the air. Leaves are falling. Scents of fresh fire is around. But most importantly is the weather, here in Georgia we have a one-two month grace period of absolutely beautiful weather, which I love. These elements all come to mind when I reflect on Francisco's piece.

Georgette Liberatore

Hello Fellow Art Enthusiasts!

My name is Colby and I am taking over Katie's (the former art loving Dogwood summer intern) position here at Dogwood Gallery. My first day was pretty exciting and I have learned a lot already about different art mediums. The highlight of my was meeting the very talented Georgette Liberatore, a local painter/exhibitor at Dogwood. She even let Greg and I roam around her workspace and get a feel for her creative environment. It was interesting listening to her talk and see how genuinely happy she is as an artist, simply creating amazing pieces of art and is just as passionate about art as she was when she started. I look forward to seeing much of her work.

out with the old, in with the new

black rain by jane whitehurst, oil on canvas

theme of destruction & renewal by scott silcox, oil on canvas

deception by allison j. smith, oil on canvas

as it is my last day as dogwood gallery's summer intern i thought i would show some of my personal favorites from the gallery. I'm intrigued by the mysterious and abstract compositions of jane whitehurst, scott silcox, and allison j. smith, and admire their ability to be so loose with their application of paint.

alas, i digress, and pass the torch on to the new intern who will be filling my postion as i return for one more year of college.

farewell!
katie

ghost of a memory by tiffany thomas

oil on canvas, 6' x 4'.

Ghost of a Memory by Tiffany Thomas

My grandfather's old 1956 Ford Pickup truck
sits in a yard under a small maple tree in Milner, Georgia.
The bottom is rusted out, and it is far from its original condition.
In this painting, the truck is somewhat ghosted onto the canvas.
The reds and rust oranges repersent the current condition of the
truck, and the blue-greens and lavender shades can be interpreted
as a memory (my memory as a child) of what the truck once was,
and the futile hope that it might one day be restored to its previous glory.
