The Man Behind the Wheel

Billy Lee, a Folk Potter in the truest sense, is self taught. He is a Naturalist taking his ideas from the world around him. Billy creates original works that have a spiritual feel. He primarily uses Georgia clay and a little Tennessee ball clay. Most of the glazes used are made from wood ash and local clays.

billy lee teaching raku
last saturday, our friend, billy lee, set up his homemade kiln on the lawn next to our gallery & demonstrated glazing & firing of raku pottery. some pieces were glazed to provide a crackle finish. we added horse hair to other pieces to gain carbon imprints. it was always surprising to see what emerged from the 1800 degree kiln. billy is one of a kind & we all had a great afternoon. thanks to angie breyne for adding her expertise to this event.
